Khushi Kapoor’s heartfelt tribute through fashion at The Archies premiere.

Khushi Kapoor’s appearance at The Archies premiere went beyond a mere fashion statement; it embodied a heartfelt tribute to her late mother. Fashion holds a unique power in shaping our connection with the world, especially when it comes to cherished garments passed down through generations. These hand-me-downs carry a profound significance, often evoking memories of loved ones and finding a special place in our closets. We tend to revisit them for occasions needing a touch of familiarity, making them our “something borrowed.”At the NMACC event featuring a special screening of The Archies premiere, Khushi Kapoor donned a strapless champagne-hued sequinned floor-length gown. This gown, originally worn by the late Sridevi at the IIFA awards a decade ago, was designed by Kaufman Franco. Stylist Priyanka Kapadia Badani reimagined it as a tribute to Kapoor’s iconic mother.Beyond the gown, Khushi Kapoor echoed her mother’s style with subtle accessories, notably a vintage diamond-studded necklace from her mother’s collection dating back to 2011. This delicate addition complemented her ensemble, paired with a sleek bun hairstyle and soft glam makeup—a nod to her mother’s clean yet glamorous aesthetic.

The allure of strapless dresses on the red carpet dates back to the 1930s, gaining prominence through designers like Mainbocher and later Christian Dior in the late 1940s. An iconic moment in strapless fashion is Marilyn Monroe’s hot pink satin dress from “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), famously emulated by Kim Kardashian at the MET Gala 2022. In the Indian event and red carpet scene, strapless dresses have remained a favored choice, with celebrities like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon, and Ananya Panday showcasing this style.Khushi Kapoor’s reminiscent ensemble pays homage to Monroe’s timeless style, particularly seen in the “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress by Jean Louis. This choice of attire resonates within a larger trend embraced by various celebrities, reflecting the enduring appeal of strapless dresses within the global fashion landscape.
