That purple dress is looking absolutely radiant! And that glowing light adds such a magical touch!

Manish Malhotra has been crafting couture dreams with his ethereal chiffon saris, both on and off screen, for the past three decades. Remaining faithful to his design DNA, he has redefined the classic six-yard staple with his unmistakable touch of glamour. One of his standout creations that has garnered a cult following is the cocktail sequin sari, featuring meticulously hand-crafted sequin work in a spectrum of shades.

In 2020, amid the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Malhotra brought a touch of shimmer and sparkle to the world by reintroducing the sequin sari in an ombré version, showcasing breathtaking gradient hues. Fast forward to 2024, and the veteran designer’s ombré sequin sari continues to reign supreme, as witnessed by Tamannaah Bhatia donning the elegant drape at Manish Malhotra’s Diwali party in November 2023.

Opting for an ombré sequin sari in pastel tones, Bhatia showcased a dove grey canvas with gradient blush and lilac shades on the hem. She paired this with a halter blouse featuring a plunge neckline in a complementary dove grey shade. This wasn’t the first time Bhatia expressed her admiration for the ensemble; in November 2020, she wore a lilac and deep purple version of the sequin sari for an event in Hyderabad.

Part of Malhotra’s ‘Ruhaniyaat’ festive collection, the sheeted sequin sari made its debut in 2019 and achieved celebrity status well before gracing the runway. Kareena Kapoor Khan was the first to step out in a pink version of this ubiquitous ensemble. The high-shine ombré sari subsequently caught the attention of other celebrities, with Katrina Kaif opting for a grape palette, Mrunal Thakur embracing berry hues, and Malaika Arora donning a gold and brown drape. More recently, Sanya Malhotra chose a pink iteration of the ombré sequin sari, while Alaya F opted for a yellow one.

Staying true to the contemporary allure of her fuss-free party drape, Bhatia decided to give traditional jewelry a rain check. She adhered to soft pink tones for her makeup and styled her mid-length hair in soft waves. An ombré sari, such as Tamannaah Bhatia’s pastel piece from Manish Malhotra, is a high-impact investment that can be worn on various occasions, from festive to formal. Its versatility allows for different jewelry pairings—consider polki pieces for a daytime event and fine diamonds for an evening affair.
