Helena Christensen brings back runway magic in a timeless gown by John Galliano.
When it comes to being a true icon, self-reference becomes an art form. Amidst a sea of starlets adorned in vintage couture, supermodel Helena Christensen made a striking statement at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. She elegantly donned a gown she had first graced the runway with 30 years prior.
Christensen chose an off-the-shoulder masterpiece crafted by none other than John Galliano for his renowned eponymous label’s spring 1996 showcase. Crafted from luxurious black satin, the gown boasted a daring plunging neckline, accentuated by sheer panels at the waist, leading into a breathtaking train. While the dress itself maintained a semblance of simplicity, reminiscent of a classic slip dress, its allure was elevated by a graceful swan-like appliqué adorning the bust and shoulder.Embracing her archival influence, the 55-year-old supermodel exuded confidence with sun-kissed skin, a subtle pink lip, and glamorous Hollywood waves. And as she gracefully graced the step and repeat, Christensen later shared the backstory of her Galliano rewear on Instagram. “So excited I was able to slip back into one of my favorite runway dresses from 1996 (corset not entirely closed up but that’ll be my little secret),” she revealed.
Galliano’s collection, aptly titled “L’école de Danse” or “The Dance School,” drew inspiration from the mesmerizing world of ballet. Against a backdrop of choir music and a whispered sermon, models like Shalom Harlow and Kate Moss glided down the runway, adorned in sculptural tutus, creating an ethereal ambiance that captivated audiences and critics alike.
