Blonde ambition meets cowboy couture Beyoncé dazzles in archival Versace.

fashion

Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter has officially made its grand entrance, and the superstar is solidifying her recent streak of method dressing. In fact, Beyoncé has just unveiled what could be considered the ultimate treasure trove of cowboy fashion: a ’90s vintage Versace ensemble. At the iHeartRadio Music Awards last night, Beyoncé slipped into an iconic look from Gianni Versace’s Western-inspired fall 1992 collection. Her outfit exuded the essence of the era, featuring abundant leather and flashy gold detailing.

Beyoncé rocked a plunging long sleeve top, complete with black fringe adorning the sleeves, paired harmoniously with embellished high-waisted pants. She accessorized her ensemble with not just one, but two chunky, studded belts, and topped it all off with a gold-trimmed cowboy hat. The star rounded out her look with wavy blonde curls, sleek black sunglasses, and gold hoop earrings. It’s undeniable that vintage fashion has dominated various facets of celebrity style in recent months. However, Beyoncé’s ensemble carries a particularly rich backstory. Beyond its debut on the 1992 runway—where the likes of Naomi Campbell strutted in similar attire—Beyoncé’s catsuit was also featured in one of Versace’s brand campaigns that same year.

The Versace advertisement showcased a trio of the decade’s top models—Yasmeen Ghauri, Christy Turlington, and Claudia Schiffer—donning variations of what the brand dubbed the “Midnight Cowgirl” aesthetic. Beyoncé seemed to channel a fusion of the three outfits, incorporating Schiffer’s catsuit with Turlington and Ghauri’s cowboy hats, and accentuating the ensemble with her own distinctive belts and accessories.Beyoncé was present to receive the Innovator Award, and in a rare speech, she delved into her creative process while paying homage to the trailblazers who paved the way for her. “Thank you so much, Stevie. I love you. I love you and I honor you. I want to thank you for paving the way for all of us,” she expressed, referring to Stevie Wonder, who presented her with the award.

Innovation begins with a dream,” she continued. “But then you must act on that dream, and that journey can be fraught with challenges. Being an innovator means envisioning what everyone believes to be impossible. It often entails facing criticism, which can test your mental resilience. Being an innovator requires leaning on faith and trusting that God will catch and guide you. So, to all the record labels, every radio station, every award show, my hope is that we embrace the joy and liberation that comes from experiencing art without preconceived notions. I dedicate this award to all the innovators who have devoted their lives and talents to instigating change.
