Schafer’s Marni gown deserves a place among the greats, echoing the beauty of Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night.

Hunter Schafer dazzled last night at the GQ Global Creativity Awards in New York City, captivating attendees with her ethereal presence. Her ensemble, a masterpiece crafted by Marni, was nothing short of museum-worthy, reminiscent of the artistic allure found in the Alfred H. Barr, Jr. Galleries at the Museum of Modern Art, perhaps adjacent to Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic Starry Night.

The gown, hand-painted with muted yellow, blue, and charcoal brushstrokes on silk duchess material, bore the unmistakable signature of Marni’s creative director, Francesco Risso. This technique, adding a human touch via brushstroke, has become a recent favorite of Risso’s, as evidenced by recent stunning appearances by Tracee Ellis Ross and Erykah Badu in hand-painted Marni creations. Schafer’s dress boasted a classic silhouette, featuring a deep V neckline and daring slits adorning the front and back of the skirt. Complementing the ensemble were hand-painted pumps, showcasing meticulous attention to detail.

Notably, Schafer’s hair, sporting a new strawberry blonde shade, seemed to undergo its own artistic transformation, appearing fiery red under certain lights and subtly blonder in others.
The star-studded event, held at WSA, welcomed luminaries such as Michaela Coel, Emily Bode, Dev Hynes, and Mickalene Thomas. Among the esteemed guests, Schafer rightfully claimed her place of honor, having recently graced the cover of American GQ as the first trans woman—a milestone she acknowledges but hopes does not overshadow her hard-earned accomplishments.

In a recent interview, Schafer expressed her desire to be recognized for her talent beyond her identity, emphasizing her commitment to roles that transcend the confines of stereotype. Despite turning down numerous trans roles, Schafer’s career continues to ascend, with promising projects on the horizon, including roles in Yorgos Lanthimos’s “Kind of Kindess” and the film “Mother Mary” alongside Coel and Anne Hathaway.

While the future of “Euphoria” remains uncertain amid delays, Schafer’s star power shows no signs of dimming. Whether gracing the red carpet or commanding the silver screen, her magnetic presence ensures that wherever she goes, she leaves an indelible mark, worthy of admiration both in museums and beyond.
