Sanya Malhotra’s Brocade Dress Was Once an Old Sari—And It Looks Stunning!
When she’s not sweating it out at the gym, Sanya Malhotra is busy experimenting with silhouettes and fabrics. Fresh off the success of Mrs, the actor embraced a feminine milkmaid dress from Tiger and Twig, a brand known for its commitment to transparent design practices. Instead of traditional linen or cotton, this peasant-style dress was crafted from Banarasi brocade, repurposed from deadstock and old saris. The intricate gold and silver zari weaves lent the dress a regal charm, staying true to the brand’s love for unexpected pairings—think brocade meets denim or boned corsets with a kitschy edge.
To complement the dress’s pared-back neckline, stylist Manisha Melwani adorned Malhotra with exquisite jewels. The coloured stone and polki choker, along with the hawk-motif pendant, came from Anu Merton’s label, while the brooch and earrings were sourced from Roma Narsinghani.
Malhotra’s fashion choices have been on a roll lately, from an ethereal tissue Chanderi co-ord set by Urvashi Kaur to a striking hand-painted plaid sari styled with a sculptural brass neckpiece. Her jewelry selections remain equally unconventional, including brass earrings symbolizing the duality of the sun and moon and a glass-ring-laden neckpiece from Surmeyi. With a knack for blending tradition with modernity, Malhotra continues to make a case for sustainable yet statement-making fashion.
