Bhumi Pednekar Revives the Bohemian Charm of Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s Crushed Silk Collection
Bhumi Pednekar is no stranger to bold and eclectic fashion choices. From pairing corsets with brocade saris borrowed from her mother to experimenting with mirror work blouses and even a repurposed rug as a skirt, she has never shied away from making a statement.
For the promotions of her upcoming film Mere Husband Ki Biwi, Pednekar embraced a rich baingani (deep purple) crushed silk lehenga, devoid of can-can, offering a fluid, bohemian aesthetic. The ensemble is a part of Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla’s newly revived Crushed Silk Collection—a vibrant line celebrating the effortless elegance of crushed silk in primary hues. Originally introduced 38 years ago, the fabric became a signature for the couturiers, showcasing their love for pure textiles such as khadi, chiffon, and crepe de chine.

Interestingly, the crushed silk technique was a happy accident. As the designers revealed to Vogue India, it stemmed from an attempt to remove a machine oil stain by twisting a kurta to dry, resulting in a striking, crinkled texture. This led to a timeless collection once adorned by icons like Jaya Bachchan and Dimple Kapadia. Most recently, Tamannaah Bhatia donned a regal rani-pink version of the lehenga, accentuated with latkans, doris, and ghunghroos.
Styled by Meagan Concessio, Pednekar’s look was further enhanced with Rajasthani aabhla mirror work set in colorful geometric motifs and beads. A beaded choker with purple stones, firozi enamel rings, and matching embellishments completed her effortlessly bohemian aesthetic, proving yet again that fashion, for Pednekar, is an adventurous playground.
