Breaking Down the ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Finale
Gi-hun’s daring plan to end the deadly games reaches a fever pitch in the bloodiest episode yet.
The explosive finale of Squid Game Season 2 is a whirlwind of chaos and heartache. Gi-hun and the remaining players risk everything in their fight to put an end to the brutal games once and for all. With stakes at an all-time high and a body count to match, Gi-hun’s strategy has to succeed. Meanwhile, Jun-ho edges closer to uncovering the truth behind the sinister operation. But just as hope begins to shine, the finale delivers a shocking twist that sets the stage for an intense third and final season.
Here’s a closer look at the electrifying events of the Season 2 finale:
A Brutal Fight in the Bathroom Sets the Stage
Tensions explode in the men’s bathroom, where a violent altercation leaves three players who voted “yes” and two who voted “no” in the last round dead. Gi-hun quickly devises a survival strategy, warning his allies about a planned “fight night” orchestrated by the guards. During the chaos, Gi-hun’s group lies low, avoiding the initial frenzy before ambushing the guards as they enter to scan the chips. The plan partially succeeds, with the group managing to overpower and kill several guards, leaving one alive to lead them to the control center.
Meanwhile, on the boat, Captain Park’s shifty behavior raises suspicions. After tampering with a drone, he kills one of Jun-ho’s men and disposes of the body, spinning a story to Woo-seok about checking out strange noises during the storm.
The Battle for Control
Hyun-ju (Player 120), using her military expertise, takes charge as the group fights its way toward the control room. However, their progress is abruptly halted when Pink Guards ambush them, killing Player 072 and leaving Dae-ho (Player 388) paralyzed with panic.
Gi-hun decides to press on with Jung-bae, but their advance is thwarted as they run into more guards. A shootout ensues, and though they take down a few, both sides run out of ammunition. Dae-ho’s attempt to retrieve bullets from fallen guards ends in failure, as his anxiety leaves him frozen. Hyun-ju’s effort to support him is cut short when reinforcements arrive, further dividing the group.
Betrayal and Heartbreak
In-ho, leading Players 047 and 015 along a separate path, unexpectedly turns on them, killing both. His betrayal forces the group to surrender, realizing they’re outmatched. Among the casualties are Players 145 and 246, including Gyung-seok, the devoted father fighting for his sick daughter.
Gi-hun and Jung-bae press on but face a chilling confrontation with the masked Front Man. Mocking Gi-hun’s heroics, the Front Man delivers a crushing blow by shooting and killing Jung-bae. Gi-hun is left to watch his closest ally die as the Pink Guards close in, and the Front Man strides away, leaving Gi-hun devastated.
What’s Next?
With a third and final season on the horizon, the story is far from over. Gi-hun’s fate hangs in the balance, and unanswered questions—especially that tantalizing mid-credits scene—promise more twists and turns in the battle against the games.
Stay tuned, as the nightmare isn’t over yet.
