Chrissy Teigen’s winter look is a maximalist dream in lilac, lace, and oversized glam.
After years of perfecting the minimalist wardrobe, fashion is officially moving away from the super understated. Social media has embraced the Mob Wife aesthetic, while award shows have been dominated by vibrant hues like cherry red and highlighter green. And in this true era of maximalism, sequins are taking center stage, endorsed by stars like Amal Clooney and Anne Hathaway – and practically everyone at this summer’s Renaissance tour. Thanks to Chrissy Teigen, I’m now fully convinced that sequins are the new neutral, and it’s time to jump on the bandwagon.
In a recent Instagram post, Teigen effortlessly combined three of this winter’s hottest trends, and I can’t help but want her entire outfit. The star donned a fully monochromatic lilac look – the unofficial ‘It’ color of the season – playing with shape and texture. At the heart of the outfit was a glitzy mini dress covered in sequins. This show-stopping piece featured a low-cut cowl neck, lace underlay, and a scalloped hem. To winterize the ensemble in the most 2024 way possible, Teigen added a seriously oversized blazer that juxtaposed her mini dress. The entire outfit was a maximalist dream, blending color, texture, and contrasting proportions seamlessly. Of course, I have my favorite piece – and yes, it’s the dress. The sequined mini managed to be playful, sexy, and chic without feeling overwhelming. The delicate lace trim provided a beautiful contrast to the glitz, and the straight silhouette balanced out the slinkiness of the seriously short dress.
Teigen also offered a masterclass in making sequin style more practical by pairing the party-ready dress with a structured coat. The oversized blazer exuded polish, thanks to its notched lapel and double-breasted closure, adding sophistication to the flirty dress. While she opted to keep everything in the same color family, you could easily tone down the dress with a more classic color. This might very well be the easiest way to transform your favorite going-out dress into a fun date-night look.
