Whether you’re ready to acknowledge it or not, grandparents are setting the fashion standard, and Elle Fanning recently showcased footwear that exemplifies this trend. When the actress stepped out in New York City this week, she not only debuted a new short haircut—which, naturally, I promptly saved to my hairstyles folder as a fellow short-haired individual—but also championed the concept of dressing akin to a sophisticated grandmother. The focal point of her entire ensemble was a striking cherry-red trench coat. This coat felt like a wearable rendition of a luxurious silk robe, boasting a belted waist that was elegantly tied and a sumptuously lustrous finish. It was, dare I say, the epitome of chic within this season’s outerwear trend.

However, the sophisticated grandma aesthetic didn’t stop there. Peeking out from underneath the silky jacket were a pair of sheer black tights coupled with grandma-inspired heels. Kitten heels have made a comeback, and Fanning’s all-black pumps exuded a refined elegance.
