EXCLUSIVE: Parisian Jewellery House Messika Debuts in India

Parisian diamond maison Messika has officially landed in India, opening its doors at The Chanakya, New Delhi, and introducing a new era of French glamour to the country’s vibrant jewellery scene. Known for its sleek lines, fluid movement, and a philosophy that diamonds should be worn everyday—not just on special occasions—Messika’s arrival signals a fresh, modern approach to luxury for the Indian market.

Diamonds in Motion: The Messika Signature

Founded by Valérie Messika, the brand is celebrated for its innovative designs—diamonds that move freely within their settings, bold rings that pair effortlessly with denim, and layered chains that look as at home under a leather jacket as they do with a sari. “I’ve had a special relationship with diamonds since I was little,” Messika tells Vogue. “I grew up playing with my father’s stones—running them through my fingers, watching them sparkle.”

After studying marketing and working in fashion, Messika returned to her roots with a mission: to break the mold of traditional jewellery and create pieces that are as dynamic and confident as the women who wear them. Her aesthetic? “Casual chic, rock-n-roll Parisian style”—a sensibility she believes resonates with modern Indian women.

A Dialogue Between Paris and India

Messika’s admiration for India runs deep. “India has such a rich relationship with jewellery—it’s part of their heritage and everyday life,” she says. “I felt it was the right moment to bring Messika here, to connect with a new generation that appreciates both tradition and modernity.” A trip to Rajasthan and the Taj Mahal left a lasting impression on the designer, inspiring her own minimalist interpretations of India’s vibrant colors, scents, and contrasts.

She’s especially drawn to India’s approach to body jewellery—nose rings, maang tikkas, and belly chains. “It’s sensual and symbolic. Indian clients understand craftsmanship and aren’t afraid to be bold. They wear jewellery to express who they are.”

Cannes to Chanakya: Diamonds That Tell a Story

That spirit of confidence was on full display at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where a longtime Messika client purchased a €5 million high jewellery piece for the Mission Impossible premiere. When a delay meant she missed the red carpet, Messika’s team found her another moment to shine. “Even with €5 million diamonds, timing is everything at Cannes,” Messika laughs.

Among the house’s most iconic creations is the Move collection—three diamonds that glide within their setting according to the wearer’s movements. These pieces have become a signature, evolving alongside Messika’s creative journey. For new clients in India, she recommends the bold So Move Max and the sculptural Chiseled Gold line, both of which capture the brand’s playful edge and modernity.

Looking Ahead: Bold Statements, Everyday Glamour

As Messika establishes itself in India, the designer sees a growing appetite for statement pieces and creative layering. “People want jewellery that shows their energy,” she says. “I believe our creations will offer something fresh and exciting.”

With Ethos as the exclusive retailer for Messika in India, a new generation of jewellery lovers can now experience the maison’s unique blend of Parisian chic and everyday wearability. For Valérie Messika, it’s all about empowering women to wear diamonds with confidence—whether at a gala, in the office, or simply out for coffee.
