From Chappals to Chakras: Dhruv Kapoor’s India is Ruling Milan
Dhruv Kapoor is turning heads in Milan with his unapologetically Indian yet global aesthetic. The Gurugram-based designer, who debuted at Milan Fashion Week in 2022, has consistently redefined fashion codes—be it through his Godzilla collab in 2023 or his playful takes on layering and streetwear.
For Fall/Winter ’25-26, Kapoor brings his roots to the global stage with a collection inspired by everyday India. From saris influencing draped skirts to plastic armchairs and mixer grinders showing up as quirky motifs, the lineup is a love letter to the familiar corners of Indian life. Yet, these elements don’t feel out of place in Milan—they’re reimagined for a global audience, blurring the lines between Mumbai streets and Italian runways.
Kapoor’s strength lies in his adaptability. Co-ord suits layered over floral zipper jackets draw from chintz and paisleys, while yoga-inspired prints evoke calmness with an edge. The iconic third eye appears on shirts, infusing mysticism into streetwear, while details like slouchy denims, sequinned scarves, and compact bags round off his unique narrative.
But it’s the little things that steal the show. A folded Hindi newspaper carried like a futuristic accessory or the Hawai chappal and beadwork accents—these details bring a sense of nostalgia while feeling utterly fresh. Kapoor isn’t just showcasing India; he’s crafting a version of it that’s modern, playful, and perfectly at home on an international stage.
With his boundary-pushing vision, Dhruv Kapoor is proving that India can wear its heritage on its sleeve—literally—without being boxed into clichés. The result? A fashion story that’s as layered as it is compelling.
