Jessica Chastain’s style echoes the glamour of Naomi Campbell as she revives a classic Ralph Lauren silhouette.

Last night, Ralph Lauren, the iconic fashion designer, marked over five decades of his eponymous brand with a dazzling runway show at his headquarters on Madison Avenue. Among the illustrious guests was Jessica Chastain, who paid homage to the brand’s rich history by donning a striking ensemble that harked back to one of Lauren’s seminal collections from the 1990s.

Chastain, accompanied by her stylist Elizabeth Stewart, delved into Ralph Lauren’s extensive archives for her show-stopping look. She opted for a piece from the fall 1997 collection, previously worn by none other than supermodel Naomi Campbell, which featured a captivating plunging halter top adorned with shimmering disco ball sequins and paired with high-waisted black pants that flared dramatically at the hem. To complement her ensemble, Chastain accessorized with a metallic bag and styled her hair in tousled waves, accentuating her look with a coral lip and smokey eyeshadow.

Later in the evening, at the Polo Bar for the after-party, she effortlessly layered a black tuxedo jacket over her top, adding a touch of sophistication to her ensemble. Campbell herself had graced the runway in the same halter top during the 1997 show, albeit styled with pinstripe trousers and a statement metallic belt, finished off with open-toe sandal heels, contrasting with Chastain’s choice of sleek black stilettos. The evening was replete with nods to Ralph Lauren’s illustrious career, both on and off the runway.

The show was held at Lauren’s Madison Avenue office, the very location where he presented his debut womenswear collection in 1972. Notably, fashion aficionados will appreciate that the esteemed fashion photographer Bill Cunningham captured moments from the intimate presentation, a noteworthy occurrence six years prior to his tenure at the New York Times.

The latest collection showcased Lauren’s timeless aesthetic, epitomizing his classic yet unfussy signatures. The show opened with none other than supermodel Christy Turlington Burns, another stalwart from Lauren’s ’90s catwalks. With Chastain’s nod to archival pieces and the nostalgic references throughout the evening, it’s apt that Lauren described his fall collection as embodying a style that endures through time.
