Designer Tarun Tahiliani Gives Team India A Makeover For Olympic Games Paris 2024

By Aditi Rana

As the countdown to the 2024 summer Olympics begins, scheduled from July 26th to August 11th, over 100 Indian athletes have qualified for the games to be held in Paris. They’re aiming to outshine the records set at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where India sent its largest contingent of 124 athletes. Tasva, the esteemed Indian menswear brand by Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd., in collaboration with celebrated designer Tarun Tahiliani, proudly announces its partnership with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). As the ‘Official Ceremonial Dress Partner’ for Team India at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, Tasva has designed the ceremonial outfits, making a significant mark in both the fashion and sports industries.

This prestigious collaboration brings together the elegance and heritage of Indian fashion with the dynamic spirit of global athleticism.

Team India’s attire for the Paris 2024 Olympics is set to make a stylish impact, showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage on the global stage. This year, Tahiliani’s designs prioritise a unified look, drawing inspiration from India’s tricolour. The ceremonial attire features traditional orange and green hues woven with subtle blue accents and a modern Ikat print. Darker blue details, such as buttons, along with patch pockets and epaulettes, add touches of sportswear and safari wear. Considering the unique setting of the opening ceremony on barges along the Seine, practicality was paramount. The design team has crafted gold sneakers from Banarasi brocade for a blend of elegance and comfort. To combat the Parisian heat, breathable natural fabrics like moss cotton and viscose crepe have been used, allowing athletes to move freely. The men’s short kurtas and bundis offer a sporty yet comfortable fit, while the women’s saris are pre-pleated for easy wear.

Reflecting on past ceremonies, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics saw female athletes in beige and brown silk kurta sets paired with navy blue blazers, while their male counterparts donned matching navy bandhgala suits. The 2016 Rio Olympics had the internet buzzing with female athletes in ombre yellow-to-blue sari and blazer combos, and the 2008 Beijing Olympics featured athletes in creamy white sherwani suits.

The Indian contingent’s ceremonial attire for the Paris Olympics 2024 promises to be full of cultural pride, modern design and henceforth, making a powerful statement on the global stage.
