Prajakta Koli’s Wedding: A Love Story Stitched in Designer Elegance
Prajakta Koli’s wedding wardrobe was a carefully curated selection of designer ensembles, each piece imbued with sentimental value and exquisite craftsmanship. At the heart of her bridal trousseau was Anita Dongre, a couturier known for her regal, sustainable, and intricately handcrafted designs.
Long before wedding planning even began, Koli had envisioned herself in an Anita Dongre lehenga. During a previous campaign with the designer, she had casually mentioned her dream outfit, and true to her word, she returned to the label for her big day. Her emerald-green wedding ensemble was a masterpiece, featuring intricate hand embroidery by the artisans of the SEWA foundation, an organization that Dongre passionately supports. The look, a departure from conventional bridal reds, exuded understated luxury while embracing traditional craftsmanship. Khanal, too, was dressed by Dongre, donning an olive-hued custom-embroidered Nehru jacket set that harmonized with Koli’s attire.
For the sunset haldi ceremony, Koli opted for an ivory sharara with delicate gota patti work from Roze, a label that blends contemporary silhouettes with classic Indian craftsmanship. The airy, elegant outfit complemented the golden-hour setting, while Khanal coordinated in a matching kurta set. The décor, with its handcrafted rattan furniture, block-printed linens, and floral arrangements, echoed the artisanal details of her outfit.
The pièce de résistance was her wedding lehenga—a breathtaking Anita Dongre creation in a white and gold palette. The lehenga featured Parijat flower motifs, a poetic nod to her name, Prajakta. The intricate patterns, Pichwai-inspired artwork, and unexpected addition of pockets made the design both sentimental and functional. It was paired with two dupattas and completed with Dongre’s signature bridal jewellery, ensuring a look that was timeless yet deeply personal.
For the reception, Koli honored her Maharashtrian roots in a classic red Benarasi silk sari, a gift from Khanal’s family. This heritage weave, rich in tradition and history, was styled with a traditional nath, a nod to her cultural lineage. Khanal, in contrast, embraced his Nepalese heritage in a Daura-Suruwal, a traditional outfit reflecting his roots. The final look was a celebration of their cross-cultural union, seamlessly blending elegance, tradition, and personal storytelling through fashion.
