Queen Bee vibes only Megan’s purple carpet moment pays homage to the iconic Mean Girls era.

Megan Thee Stallion stole the spotlight on the purple carpet at the premiere of the movie musical. Her presence at the event was a testament to her close association with the movie—she’s humorously referred to herself as the “Black Regina George” for years and even has a track titled “Not Nice” that deals with the theme of handling mean girls. Megan’s outfit choice for the Mean Girls premiere further solidified her status as the Queen Bee, as she donned a sheer, Y2K-inspired gown that grabbed everyone’s attention.Collaborating with Reneé Rapp on the song “Not My Fault” for the film, Megan chose to channel early 2000s vibes for her look at the event. The musical artist worked in tandem with emerging designer Natalia Barzlai from HouseofJMC to create a unique ensemble fitting for the rap icon. Rather than opting for a high-profile fashion designer (or selecting vintage pieces like Kylie Jenner often does), Megan’s choice to champion a rising talent in the industry was a refreshing change.

Her custom-made purple gown featured a plunging keyhole V-neck adorned with purple and pink beads, stopping just below her belly button. The dress’s Y2K silhouette echoed the fashion trends seen in the original Mean Girls film, reminiscent of Regina and her clique’s style (think of Regina’s iconic pink Murakami Louis Vuitton). The sheer gown boasted a glittery sheen and gracefully covered her shoes. Megan chose to forgo accessories, allowing the dress to command attention on its own.

She styled her blonde hair, dyed as a nod to the OG Regina George, in a voluminous side part. Her makeup complemented the ensemble, with frosty purple eyeshadow that harmonized perfectly with the dress. Even her nails were meticulously designed for the occasion: a burn book-inspired manicure spelling out “M-E-A-N” on one hand in the burn book font and “G-I-R-L” on the other. Every aspect of Megan’s appearance paid homage to the original film, a thoughtful touch appreciated by fans.

Natalia Barzali, an LA-based designer, has previously dressed Megan for various occasions, including her “Cobra” music video ensemble and New Year’s Eve Nike outfit. The HouseofJMC team has also crafted custom looks for celebrities like the Kardashians, Lizzo, and Golden Globes winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Undoubtedly, this emerging fashion house is one to keep an eye on, especially during the upcoming award season.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the carpet, Megan expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with Rapp on the film’s song, stating, “I love Reneé. I love her, and I love Mean Girls! It was only right that they had to call the H-town hottie out here. I’ve been calling myself the Black Regina George forever,” Megan playfully hinted at the possibility of being part of the film’s sequel, jokingly beckoning Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels.
